Laila Rahman Kabir
Ms Laila Rahman Kabir is the Managing Director of Kedarpur Tea Co. Ltd., which owns 3 tea estates. She has been managing the estates since 1975.
She was elected as the Chairperson of the Bangladesh Tea Association (BTA) in 1992, she is the first and only woman to have held this office. In 1994 she was elected the first woman President of the Bangladesh Employers Association (BEA) which is now known as the Bangladesh Employers Federation (BEF). At that time she also represented the employers in the Bangladesh Labour Law Reform Commission as a member of Commission.
In 1998, Mrs. Kabir was elected as the President of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Dhaka. She was the first woman to be elected to head this oldest and most prestigious trade body of the country. Mrs. Kabir is a member of the National Skills Development Council (NSDC), which is headed by the Prime Minister. She is also a member of the Executive Committee of NSDC.
Mrs. Kabir is the recipient of the Bangladesh Business Award – DHL, Daily Star – Life Time Contribution Award for the year 2013 – “ in recognition of outstanding leadership quality and as a role model in corporate business”.
